Wedding Rites : ARRHAE
The Arrhae
13 pieces of coins, loose or chained together, is presented by the groom to the bride as a symbol of his commitment being the head of the family to provide for their welfare. "Arrhae" is from the Spanish word arras, meaning "earnest money".
